7972 Hour Survival Kit - Why have one ?
From the phrase ‘72 hour survival kit' it is quite easily assumable that this kit is going to contain the essential things that you will need for Survival for 72 hours. These kits are also nice to have in your Car, RV, and Motor home or at your vacation home. What this kit will have in it depends much on the person who owns it. If you do not know how to arrange for a 72-hour kit, read on down this article. I hope that it will let you know what is needed in a 72-hour survival kit. Please feel free to add comments to help others be prepared!
When putting together your emergency preparedness plan consider all of the disasters that may occur where you live. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Earthquakes, Flooding, Wild Fires and with since post 911, Terrorist attacks.
Fire can strike without notice
The essential things that your 72 hour kit should have within it; a battery powered or hand crank radio, a first aid kit, sleeping bags, manual can opener, flashlights, non-perishable food , water (look for water and food with shelf lives of 5 years - most bottle water is only good for a year or two), water purification tablets and a utility knife. You may also want in your 72 hour survival kit some candles for emergency purposes, extra eyeglasses, extra clothing and some essential medications, and I have added a secure USB drive with scanned copies of all of my families data, this device is password protected, fire and water-proof.
There is perhaps, no need to explain why these things are called essential and why these are the prime things that your 72 hour kit must carry.
72 Hour Survival Kit
Here is the list of some more things that you should carry in your 72 hour kit while traveling. The list includes plastic bags and ties, paper cups and plates, improvised toilet seat, personal toiletries, aluminum foils, personal hygiene needs, soap, shampoo and some other.
While preparing this 72 hour kit, keep it in mind that you will need these things when you are not at home. Equip it in such a way that t can make you feel at home at any place in the world. Do not forget to include a set of pen and paper, some money (additional), phone cards, rolls of quarters, work gloves and some basic tools in the list of the things to be put into the 72 hour kit. It is better for you if you can manage to consult a doctor in order that you can come to know which particular medicines you aught to keep in your 72 hour kit. Manage the things well so that you do not get confused about which thing has been placed where.
I would sum up by asking you to consider why it's important to have a 72 Hour Survival Kit on hand - When some bad happens Government Agencies will be focused on helping those who are in the most need. I agree that 72 hour kits are very important. I found a really great survival pill to put into them, it is called LifeCaps and the founder of the company has been able to survive very easily for 17 days on these capsules and water! I have added them to all our 72 hour kits as well as the glovebox in all our cars. The website to get more information is www.lifecaps.net and if you decide to order you can get a $10 per bottle discount if you use the discount code "GETCAPS".
Great Hub! I will be checking out your other hubs as well. 2 Thumbs up!

Hey Joep,
I love it when people post sites like these to assist people in remembering the big and small things needed in an emergency. Living in "Hurricane Alley" I have had my shares of survival from some very serious hurricanes which also spin off tornadoes. It is a very scary time, and that is why you MUST be prepared ahead of time with an emergency kit. I want to add something that I found that will help keep your sanity when things are out of commission. I think everyone should have a portable generator, they are cost efficient, and it is so much nicer to use that to power your lights, stove, refrigerator, radio and power your cell phones. I got the best deal here: http://portablegenerator.catablogg.com/

Great list of items. One good way to do the food in your kit is by making a milk jug food kit. You put things like soup, granola bars, ravioli, etc. all into a milk jug and include a little wing-tip stove so you can heat the items. It all fits in one jug and is very light and inexpensive. I have 4 of these and try to rotate the foods once per year. The kids love raiding them :)
